Vidrala's MasterGlass Design contest already has a winner

Foto: Primer Premio: ICE Pure Icelandic Water. “Ice” from the School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering in Terrassa (ESEIAAT - UPC) has won first prize at the second MasterGlass competition, organised by Vidrala. Three accésit accolades were also conferred on the projects “ENCUENTRO”, “ACE” and “HERA”. 

The aim of the contest is to seek out new ideas among students of industrial design, engineering and graphic arts from all over Spain. Participants submitted over 50 ideas. The judging panel comprised National Design Prize winners Juli Capella and Mario Ruiz, in addition to Professor Marcelo Leslabay and Jon Abad representing EIDE.

First place: ICE Pure Icelandic Water
The jury awarded this project top spot due to its outstanding capacity for communication. The design team was formed by Santiago Garau de Meer, Xavi Anducas and Huijun Jiang. It is a transparent glass bottle that immediately conveys the sensation of pure cool water, emphasised by a simple brand graphic that does not impair one's view of the contents. Even though it is not yet possible to industrialise the bottle on a grand scale, the jury believes that a contest focussing on ideas by young designers should disregard current manufacturing limits in order to set the direction for technology in the future.

Accésit: ENCUENTRO
This concept connects wine bottles along their side section, a solution that deftly enables one to resolve functional problems such as stacking up to 15 bottles horizontally or reducing space on the shelf. It also encourages a pair of bottles to be bought at once. Its creators are Cristina López and Carlos Lobo from the Escuela Superior de Diseño in the Murcia region.

Accésit: ACE
ACE puts the emphasis on interactivity between the user and the bottle; the latter transforms into a cocktail shaker thanks to a spice kit tucked inside the aluminium screw cap. The project was presented by: Ane de la Brena, Sian Roberson, Igor Romero and Asier Fernández from Mondragon University.

Accésit: HERA
"The MILK for a new ERA" is a sophisticated transparent glass bottle for milk. It comes in a 330 ml size, with a polyethylene cap that allows the user to reseal the bottle once opened. It was devised by Ainhoa Irigoien and Garoa Gómez from the Tecnun School of Engineering at the University of Navarra.
