The major technology week for the industrial sector in Barcelona hosted the simultaneous celebration of Advanced Factories, the leading event in automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 in Southern Europe, and AMT 2025, the biennial machine tool trade show for the metalworking industry. From April 8 to 10, both trade shows brought together more than 37,000 industrial professionals, generating an economic impact of more than €79 million for the city of Barcelona. More than 680 exhibiting companies showcased the latest in robotics, industrial automation, artificial intelligence, machine vision, 3D printing, digital twins, IoT, and other technologies at Advanced Factories, as well as solutions for the integration of production systems, cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, quality control, and improving energy efficiency. The AMT pavilion also featured more than 180 exhibiting companies presenting the latest in machine tools, materials, and other solutions for the metalworking sector and its supporting industries. The Industry 4.0 Congress also took place, showcasing more than 200 industrial experiences from leading firms in the sector. More than 430 experts from industries ranging from automotive to pharmaceutical to food shared trends and success stories in the application of advanced technologies in production plants. This included executives from the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors such as Almirall, Novaltia, Basf, Towa Pharma, Hipra, and B. Braun Surgical; and from the food and beverage sectors such as Coca-Cola, Damm, Grupo Agora, Noel, Pastas Gallo, and Kellogg's, among others. Factories of the Future Awards 2025 The awards recognized the work, leadership, and transformation of companies committed to the evolution of industrial processes, innovation, and digitalization. This call received a total of 193 applications. The Fracttal Award for Leadership in the Digital Transformation of Industrial Plants went to Horse, a Spanish company belonging to the Renault Group that develops, manufactures, and supplies internal combustion engines, lowconsumption hybrids, plug-in hybrids, batteries, and transmissions. Meanwhile, ABB won the La Vanguardia Award for Best Industrial Equipment for the Factory of the Future thanks to its Item Picking Family, a group of robotic solutions focused on automating picking and delivery processes for items in unstructured flows. The finalists were Virtualware and its Simumatik platform, which simulates and emulates industrial automation systems, enabling riskfree testing in a virtual environment; and Yaskawa, for iCube Control, an open automation machine control technology initiative that provides full control over its systems. The Sothis Award for the Best Automation and Robotics Project in an Industrial Plant went to Navantia, for its project, which includes the acquisition of an advanced Pemamek production line, which modernizes and automates it. Bosch Rexroth, for its innovative servo-hydraulic axis, and Delteco, were just short of the award. The Mitsubishi Award for the Most Disruptive Startup in the Industrial Field went to Uraphex, an emerging company specializing in sustainable, cost-effective, and chemical-free water regeneration in large-scale industrial processes. The company was recognized for reinventing the way to universally regenerate industrial water, thus contributing to the goal of a more sustainable industry. Automassist, an emerging company providing complementary AI-based solutions for factories, and Aracne Textile Solutions, which has developed technological solutions aimed at transforming the textile industry, were finalists in this category. The Aitiip technology center won the Eurecat Award for Best Research and Development Project for ROBOMIMIC, a portable robotic platform for dismantling large composite components, facilitating their recycling and reuse. The proposal was recognized for its potential impact across all industrial sectors, as well as for all operations that can be executed in a manufacturing company. The finalists in the Naitec category were for its multimodal artificial intelligence (AI)-based defect prediction and process recommendation platform; and Suplex Iberica and its ALICIA project, which establishes a Circular Manufacturing Ecosystem (CME) within the European industrial landscape. Finally, the Becolve Award for Excellence in Sustainability, Eco-development, and the Circular Economy recognized LIUX, a company transforming vehicle production through bio-based materials, modularity, and 3D printing. The finalists in this category were SEGUAS for the DuoEnergy System, designed to decarbonize industry and optimize energy use by recovering and reusing waste heat from industrial refrigeration processes; and ACTECO, a leading plastics recycling company that has implemented MESbook to digitize and optimize its production processes.
