49 TEMA CENTRAL I MAIN TOPIC Production of lignin nanoparticles We have also purified lignin-rich fractions through washing processes and applied delamination technologies to obtain more homogeneous and reactive particles. Furthermore, we have used macrometric lignin as a base for new bioadhesives, which allows us to reduce the use of petrochemical derivatives in industrial formulations. Applications in Paper Packaging Thanks to the unique properties of micro- and nanofibers, we have incorporated these materials as reinforcing additives in recycled cellulose pulps, significantly improving the material’s mechanical properties. Furthermore, we have developed abrasionresistant additives through surface modifications and colloidal processing. Recyclability and Sustainability Using the products obtained in the project, we have designed a new package for dry goods, evaluating its recyclability and integration into the value chain. The results show a high degree of recyclability, reinforcing its viability as a sustainable solution for the current market. Future Applications and Sustainable Commitment The biomaterials we are developing are not only suitable for sustainable and recyclable packaging, but also open the door to new applications such as biodegradable active packaging, functional coatings, and bioadhesives. At AINIA, we continue to work on sustainable chemical solutions aligned with the European Union’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting a more responsible and environmentally friendly industry.
