NEWS PACKAGING 83

78ENTREVISTA I INTERVIEW biodiversity to our commitment to organic farming. Plant-based food and organic farming contribute to reducing environmental impact and promote a more balanced and sustainable food model. El Granero has more than 500 products. What are their best-selling items? El Granero Integral breakfast cereals, Ecocesta and Isola plant-based drinks, Cupper teas and infusions, and magnesium citrate supplements. All products are available in herbal shops and eco-stores. What other distribution channels are used? In addition to the channel you mentioned, the Ecocesta brand is available in the mass market, and the other brands are also available through e-commerce and out-of-home advertising. What certifications do you hold, and why do you think they are important? We have IFS Food and Organic Certification at our factories in Madrid and Toledo, Fair Trade certification for our tea and infusion line, FSC-certified cardboard, and B Corp certification for environmental and CSR practices. For us, product quality and respect for the environment and people are the foundation of Biogran. How do you decide what type of packaging your products should have? The packaging is chosen considering product protection and minimizing environmental impact. We strive for a balance between food safety and sustainability. Recyclable packaging is a project we’ve been working on for years at Ecotone. Our tea and infusion line is plastic-free and staple-free, and our plant-based beverage containers are made with 88% recycled paper. The boxes are made of recycled cardboard and are FSC certified. The biggest challenge is flexible plastic packaging. What materials are they made of? The infusions are made of recycled paper and cardboard. We use singlematerial (polypropylene) flexible packaging for our pancake line and will soon be using it for our breakfast cereal lines. Do you consider recyclability? Yes, recycling is a key criterion in our packaging selection. We work to ensure they are easily recyclable and to provide consumers with clear information on how to dispose of them correctly. Furthermore, European regulations are pushing for all food packaging to be recyclable by 2030. How do you promote reuse? We encourage packaging that can have a second life at home and are committed to reducing packaging sizes, designed for responsible consumption, reducing waste, and promoting more conscious use. What sustainability criteria do you apply at the production level? We prioritize organic raw materials, both domestic and European, responsible suppliers, efficient processes, and respect for natural cycles and biodiversity. All of this is aimed at minimizing environmental impact and guaranteeing products of the highest quality. How do you see the future of organic food? Will it continue to grow? We firmly believe it will continue to grow. Organic food is no longer a passing trend, but a shift in consumption habits. More and more people are looking for healthy, sustainable, and transparent options. What are your future goals? Our goals include continuing to expand our product range, continuously improving our processes, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability, and bringing organic food closer to more and more people, always maintaining the quality and values that define us.
