The metal packaging sector in Spain recorded a turnover of €3.259 billion—a 27.9% increase—while the overall packaging market reached $22.58 billion in 2026, according to data from Mordor Intelligence. In addition to strength and durability, metal packaging stands out for being 100% recyclable. It can be recycled indefinitely without any alteration to its properties, thereby saving resources and energy while reducing CO2 emissions. In other words, when metal products reach the end of their useful life, they are recycled over and over again without losing their properties—a process known as “true recycling.” Currently, the combined recycling rate for steel and aluminum exceeds 85.8% of production. Furthermore, metal packaging offers numerous possibilities. On one hand, its versatility allows it to package an ever-widening range of beverages; on the other, its 360-degree surface area enables the creation and display of innovative marketing designs. 6.8% INCREASE IN BEVERAGE CAN CONSUMPTION Consumption of beverage cans in Spain continues to rise—a trend that has persisted for the last decade. According to studies conducted by the Beverage Can Association, consumption of canned beverages in the food retail sector increased by 6.8% in 2025 compared to the previous year. This figure surpasses the growth rate seen in 2024, which remained steady at 1.8%, matching the 2023 figure. Once again, sales of canned soft drinks, sports drinks, and energy drinks drove this growth in 2025, rising by 13.8%.
