CitySens’ biophilic planter, Enplast’s three-layer drum, and Unnom’s modular bench are the winners of the Rethinking Plastic Awards, presented at Equiplast, held at Fira Barcelona from June 2nd to 5th. Enplast received the award in the sustainable plastic packaging category for its industrial three-layer drum produced with 50% postconsumer recycled material. This technology allows for the use of recycled material in the container’s middle layer without compromising its properties. The award in the ‘Construction and Furniture’ category went to Motus, by CitySens Lab, self-watering planters designed with a biophilic approach and made from 100% recycled plastic from post-consumer waste. The special Rethinking Plastic award for circularity was given to ARTdECO, modular benches developed by Unnom. Rotor Print by SPG reinforces its commitment to more sustainable pharmaceutical packaging, thanks to the recyclability certification of its metallized PO triplex structure, validated by Institut cyclos-HTP, which achieves an 88% recyclability rate. The metallized PO triplex maintains the necessary performance for pharmaceutical applications, especially in terms of protection against moisture, oxygen, and other external agents that can affect the stability and safety of the medication. This advancement extends to related sectors such as parapharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food supplements, and veterinary medicine. The solution is geared towards flowpack applications for sensitive products. The structure—based on polyolefins (PP and PE)—has demonstrated high compatibility with existing recycling processes, with accurate identification in NIR systems, absence of inseparable contaminants, and optimal performance in the sorting and reprocessing phases.
