HP shows its solutions in 3D digital printing in Advanced Factories 2020

HP participates these days in the Advanced Factories fair, one of the most important industrial technology congresses of the moment, held from March 3 to 5 in Barcelona. HP presents its latest addition to its range of 3D printing solutions, the HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series solution, and its proposal to serve its 3D printing offer (3DaaS). With this new model, HP intends to make it easier for companies to integrate three-dimensional printing into their manufacturing strategies.
To the extent that 3D printing is incorporated into industrial production, HP has developed new options to help customers improve business agility and accelerate their transformation to additive manufacturing. It highlights the basic subscription service of HP 3D as a Service (3DaaS), which offers customers the automatic replenishment of HP 3D materials and simplified billing and usage tracking, as well as on-site and remote support services reliable.
It also offers the HP 3D as a Service (3DaaS) Plus Plus subscription service, which includes hardware, supplies and services for customers looking to accelerate the life cycle of their products with optimized rapid internal prototyping and final production of parts.

An inclusive eco-packaging for e-commerce, awarded in the 2020 Paper Value Awards

An inclusive eco-packaging for electronic commerce, designed by four young people graduated from Unizar, triumphs in the 2020 Paper Value Awards, organized by the paper chain industry. It is a packaging for e-commerce courier shipments made one hundred percent in cardboard with a mechanical closure system, without adhesives, which facilitates recyclability. An example of sustainable and inclusive pckaging due to its eco-design and intuitive character that facilitates both shipping and returns.
The Jury of the sixth edition of the Paper Values Awards has unanimously granted the Natural Award to Andrea Asión Ariño, Nuria Goldáraz Salamero, Natalia Chueca Gracia and Bárbara María Velazco Sada, as young promises called to renew the ecodesign of packaging with projects such as the packaging for e-commerce courier shipments «Caisor».
This packaging solution, developed by the four young women graduated in Industrial Design Engineering and Product Development by the University of Zaragoza, has also been recognized at the Liderpack and WorldStar Student Awards.
The delivery of the VI Paper Value Awards will take place on March 24, 2020 at the Auditorium 400 of the Reina Sofía National Museum in Madrid, within the framework of the annual Paper Forum event.
The Paper Values Awards are promoted by the 11 organizations in the paper chain that make up the Paper Forum.


Smurfit Kappa increases its EBITDA by 7%

Smurfit Kappa has closed its last fiscal year with revenues of 9,048 million euros, 1% more than the previous year. Its EBITDA stood at 1,650 million euros, after increasing by 7% in this year, while its margin grew by 18.2%. As for cash flow (Free Cash Flow), the figure has risen to 547 million euros in 2019, which implies an increase of 11%, while its final dividend has grown 12%, to 80.9 cents per action.
Tony Smurfit, CEO of Smurfit Kappa, said in this regard that "2019 represents another solid period of sales and profitability for the Group. Our goal is to become a globally admired company that dynamically offers safe and valuable returns and the data obtained shows that we are on the right track. We are present in 35 countries, where we work to create innovative, sustainable and paper-based solutions for more than 65,000 customers, to whom we always offer the best,” said the manager.
The founder of the company has mentioned the two major regions that move the bulk of the company's business: Europe and America, ensuring that “our European business has continued to function satisfactorily, as its EBITDA margin has shown, which has reached the 19%, thanks to the growth in demand, in line with our expectations. In fact, the year has been particularly good in Iberia and Eastern Europe. Regarding our activity in America, the EBITDA margin has increased to 17.5%, compared to 15.7% in 2018, thanks to countries such as Colombia, Mexico and the United States, which have had a solid financial activity throughout the exercise".
Smurfit Kappa has so far made an investment of 700 million euros in acquisitions of new companies that add value to the Group's activity, as well as in technology. Along these lines, the Group will complete a series of important paper projects in Europe during 2020 and will continue to invest in its corrugated cardboard division.

The Packaging Cluster promotes the ‘Safe Smart Food’ project

Àlex Brossa, Cluster Manager of Packaging Cluster, has presented in Brussels the kick-off of the Excellence Program "Safe Smart Food" against the European Clusters Collaboration Platform (ECCP) and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME ). As project coordinators, framed in the call for grants from the COSME Program, the Packaging Cluster leads the consortium with the aim of fostering collaboration between clusters, improving management capacity and creating an ecosystem favorable to the agri-food sector.
In addition to the Packaging Cluster, the consortium consists of other clusters in Spain, Lithuania, Latvia and Austria: the Foodservice Cluster of Catalonia, Lietuvos Maisto Eksportuotoju Asociacija (LITMEA) of Lithuania, Latvijas Partikas Uznemumu Federacija of Latvia and the Business Upper Austria - OO WIRTSCHAFTSAGENTUR GMBH from Austria.
The Safe Smart Food project was created with the intention of promoting the internationalization of the associated clusters and their member companies, in addition to improving their situation through networking conferences, specific training or activities that allow maximum excellence and quality of the services offered. The needs of the market and the challenges to be faced from the packaging and food sector will be analyzed. The program will focus on the development and competitiveness of SMEs.
The total budget for Safe Smart Food is € 456,623, with a contribution of € 347,467 from the European Union and 20 months to carry out the task.
This initiative provides for more than 50 exchanges between the different members of the European Clusters.

Aptar Group is a global leader in the design and manufacturing of a broad range of drug delivery, consumer product dispensing and active packaging solutions servicing the pharmaceutical, beauty, personal care, home, food and beverage markets. They are headquartered in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and have 14,000 employees in 17 countries.
Jonathan Gross and Derek Harvey will remain on as Co-CEO’s ant the entire leadership team will continue on in their current capacity. The organization will opérate as a stand-alone business unit while gaining Access to all Aptar products and capabilities including their innovation pipeline, IP and sustainability platform.

The score will be based on the jury’s verdict of the entry, with the four aspects of the judging criteria - the quality of design, brand expression, creativity & innovation and emotional connection. Each element will be scored, allowing entrants to identify areas for improvement as well as areas of success. The participants will get the clearest possible sense of what the judges thought of their packaging. Actionable, tailored insights like these will be invaluable for packaging designers keen to take their work to the next level.
