Una beca valorada en 20.000 € cuyo ganador ha sido Adrián Díaz Yubero, estudiante del grado en Diseño de Producto en la Escuela Superior de Arte del Principado de Asturias. The projects were selected from over 200 entries submitted by more than 1,000 students from 34 universities and design schools across Spain. The awards ceremony was held at the Kinépolis Cinemas in Valencia. Grupo Pikolinos’ challenge focused on rethinking the current footwear packaging model. The first prize went to Gisela Mészáros Ferrer, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), for “Eco-Packaging Envolvente” (Eco-Packaging Wrap). The packaging uses flexible kraft cardboard, conforms to the shoe’s shape with reinforced grooves and tabs, and eliminates the need for additional bags, tissue paper, and other fillers. It can be transformed into an adaptable vertical organizer, optimizing the packaging’s second life. DS Smith, an International Paper company, proposed replacing plastic bags in supermarkets with micro-flute corrugated cardboard solutions. The winning proposal came from Luciana Oliver of CEU Cardenal Herrera University, who developed a corrugated cardboard bag that incorporates an ergonomic handle and a structure that envelops the contents. The design is optimized for flat transport and easy assembly by folding. It also proposes a second life as a biodegradable seed starter. Damel Group challenged participants to improve the design of the display and storage for its “Palotes“impulse-buy products. The first prize was won by Celia Sáez de la Peña, María Burgaleta Gutiérrez, Fernando Leal Lago, and Paula Ramos Pindado, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with”El Paloclope”, a new container-display with the capacity to store up to 200 Palotes. The design is inspired by a smiling cyclops, reinforcing the product’s visibility at the point of sale, and improves dispensing through a structure where the sticks are inserted from the top. The design is made primarily of biobased PP using injection molding. Qiub leads another challenge in this edition, focused on developing packaging with precise dosing systems for powdered products. The winners of this challenge were Carlos Fuente García and David Fernández Lastra, from the Higher School of Art of the Principality of Asturias (ESAPA), with a creatine dispenser for the Qiub brand. The design integrates a dose selection system into the packaging, allowing the amount of product to be adjusted by rotating the container. Familia Martínez invited participants to design packaging solutions for use in air fryers. The first prize went to Ane Pelayo, Garazi Portillo, and Yaiza Zuazo, from Mondragon University, for “AERIS, ” a modular and divisible packaging system that makes the packaging an active part of the cooking process. Its internal tray filters fat during preparation. The proposal includes formats adapted to different portion sizes, simplifies preparation, and allows cooking directly in the container, reducing waste and improving the air fryer experience. Alpesa has proposed the development of packaging solutions using cardboard tubes. The first prize was awarded to Lara Valls Algaba and Cristina Alexandra Ienasescu, from Universitat Jaume I, for “LJC – Luxury Jewel Case.” Using a cardboard tube, the winners developed a jewelry case with a triple function: display, personal jewelry box, and protection from light and dust. Their design incorporates a telescopic tube closure, internal centering guides, and a three-piece structure—case, panel, and base—using recyclable, biodegradable, natural, and plastic-free materials. Plan Cantera Clúster Award Finally, at this gala, the Plan Cantera Clúster Award was presented, granting one of the participating students a scholarship from the Packaging Cluster to pursue a postgraduate Master’s degree at ESIC Business & Marketing School. This scholarship, valued at €20,000, was awarded to Adrián Díaz Yubero, a student of Product Design at the Higher School of Art of the Principality of Asturias.
